Upcoming Event: Salon Art + Design Returns to New York City (November 4–8, 2026)

- by Announcement, Rare Book Hub staff

The 15th edition of Salon Art + Design returns to the Park Avenue Armory in New York City from November 4 through November 8, 2026. Produced by Sanford L. Smith + Associates, the fair brings together international galleries showcasing collectible furniture, studio design, glass, ceramics, and 20th-century and contemporary art.

Why is an Art & Design Fair Featured on a Collectible Paper Platform?

While Salon Art + Design is largely known for high-end furniture, lighting, and decorative arts, it holds strong significance for collectors of fine paper, rare print culture, and ephemera:

  • Featured Exhibitor: Specialist dealer Potterton Books (founded in 1980 by Clare Jameson and based in North Yorkshire, England) brings a presentation showcasing works on paper as primary design objects. Highlights from their presentation include:
    • A limited-edition 2005 facsimile of Henri Matisse’s Jazz, highlighting vivid modern master compositions.
    • A 14-volume facsimile collection of Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels from the 1980s, exploring iconic book design and publishing history.
    • Décoration (1973) from Connaissance des Arts, capturing 1970s interior, graphic, and decorative design trends.

  • 20th-Century Avant-Garde & Graphic Arts: The fair features premier galleries specializing in modern design movements (such as Bauhaus, Art Deco, and Mid-Century Modern). For paper collectors, these movements represent critical eras in original exhibition posters, avant-garde typography, and graphic design ephemera.

  • Architectural Drawings & Fine Prints: Rare works on paper—ranging from mid-century architectural renderings and original design sketches to modern master prints—frequently cross over into the interior and architectural design spaces highlighted at Salon.

  • Livres d'Artiste & Fine Bindings: Tactile craftsmanship lies at the heart of the show. Collectors of artist books, fine bindings, and limited-edition design publications share the same appreciation for material culture and craftsmanship as collectors of studio glass, fine art, and decorative objects.

  • Cross-Disciplinary Collecting: Modern collecting increasingly blurs the lines between fine art, rare paper, and interior space. For paper and book enthusiasts looking to contextualize their collection alongside museum-quality design, Salon offers an invaluable perspective on how works on paper interact with living environments.
