Nick Aretakis, ABAA: A Fresh e-List

Nick Aretakis, who helped the Reese Company after the passing of William Bill Reese, has returned to manage his own firm:  Nick Aretakis – Americana, now based in Guilford, Connecticut.  He will be issuing electronic and printed catalogues, and will exhibit at book fairs.  Here is his first post-Reese e-list:.

Dear friends and colleagues,

I’m very pleased to present the first e-list of my renewed bookselling firm, featuring thirty items of Americana.

You can find the list at the following link: New Acquisitions - November 2024

Among the highlight are:

-- The catalogue of the library of the important African American collector, William C. Bolivar, presented to the noted Washington D.C. minister, Francis J. Grimke (item 3)

-- The 1791 printing of the Constitutions of the United States…, featuring a Bill of Rights still containing twelve amendments, and the pathbreaking constitution of the new state of Vermont (item 5)

-- A sermon by Lemuel Haynes, the first ordained African American minister in the United States (item 14) as well as an early biography of Haynes (item 6)

-- A pioneering novel published in Oregon in 1859, by Abigail Duniway, who crossed the Plains earlier that decade (item 9)

-- A promotional item from the Washington College of Law, the first American law school to graduate an all-female class (item 19)

-- Poetry and drama by Mercy Otis Warren, casting doubts on the viability of the early American Republic (item 26)

and many more offerings from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries.

You’ll notice that the list is not illustrated. If you would like to see illustrations of any item on the list, please e-mail me at naretakis@mindspring.com and I will be happy to help.

Sincerely,

Nick Aretakis
