About Us Paulus Swaen specializes in maps of all parts of the world, atlases and globes, illustrated books and medieval manuscripts. Paulus Swaen Internet Auction, first offered in 1996, was the first internet auction to specialize in old maps. It is a unique place for buying and selling antique maps, atlases, books, and medieval manuscripts. Sales are conducted in February, March, April, May, June, September, October and November. The firm has an ample stock of maps of all parts of the world produced by renowned cartographers, such as Ortelius, Mercator, Blaeu, Janssonius, Hondius, Visscher, de Wit, as well as dealing in atlases, globes, travel books and medieval manuscripts.A certificate of authenticity is provided with each lot. The firm was founded in 1978 in the Netherlands and the Gallery was housed until the middle of 1997 in a lovely old building. Beginning in 1996 we began to offer catalogues on the Internet. Buyer's Fee The buyer pays, on top of the hammer price, a premium of 12% on the first $30,000 and 8% on the excess. Buyers from within the State of Florida pay a 7% sales tax on the hammer price plus buyer's premium and shipping cost.
Consigner's Fee Commission rates for consignors depend on value: 12% for items that sell for $5,000 and below, 8% for items that sell for more than $5,000.
