The following is taken from the foreword to this auction catalogue. It is written by Dr. Bauer:

It is the business of a book collector to make his collection as complete as possible with copies as near the original state as he is able to procure. This collection is not complete, but the condition of the items is such that I think it would be difficult to duplicate them at the present time. Many of my books have been traded over the years to find a better copy; I think this is an important part of collecting.

A book collector need not necessarily be a scholar but, from years of close relationship with the outstanding dealers in Western Americana, I hope I have learned something of the enticing subject of bibliography and it has been a great pleasure to me. I hope the future owners of these books enjoy them as much as I have.
