Huntington Books Sold Duplicates of Early West Bring Nearly $30,000 in Four Days A total of $20,924.50 was realized from the sale of early Western literature consisting of duplicates from the library of Henry E. Huntington at the Anderson Galleries. The final sale yesterday afternoon netted $5,841, with $360 the highest price for a single volume, paid by Dr. A. S. W. Rosenbach for a rare example of the early Spanish press of California, a series of papers published in Sonoma in 1837-39. Dr. Rosenbach also paid $280 and $350 for a first and second edition of F. P. Wierzbicki's "California as It Is, as It May Be; or, A Guide to the Gold Region, one of the first books published in English in California. The same buyer paid $350 for a rare title on Oregon and the Northwest by Louis A. Tarascon, New York, 1837. E. Eberstadt paid $290 for W. Wadsworth's "The National Wagon Road Guide, San Francisco, 1858. |
