Source Title | An extensive run of catalogues issued by the Scribner Book Store |
Description | The Scribner Book Catalogues are some of the best book catalogues to be issued in the 20th century. Typically they followed a theme. History, American Historical Novels, Music, Detective Fiction are a few of them. Today it is difficult for book dealers to assemble a significant selection of material on a single theme but even sixty years ago, it wasn't easy. David A. Randall, head of the Rare Book Department from 1934 to 1956 and his counterpart in London, John Carter, produced many exceptional and memorable theme catalogues that today are themselves highly collectible. In 1956 Mr. Randall joined the faculty of Indiana University as Lilly Librarian and Professor of Bibliography. |
