Description Note [from the preface}

The following pages contain a brief descriptive list, arranged alphabetically, of the most important bibliographies, and booksellers' and auctioneers' catalogues of old, scarce, and valuable books, pamphlets, manuscripts, maps and charts relating to the antiquities, history, and geography of North and South America, and West Indies, the Great South Sea, and voyages round the World. Of the general bibliographies not included in the present list, but which are of great value to Americanists, the reader should consult Brunet's Manual; Lowndes Manual; Bibliotheca Grenvilliana; Harvard College Library Bulletins; Catalogues of the Boston Public Library, Library of Congress, Astor Library, Boston Athenaeum; and the works of DeBure, Antonio Graesse, Boehmer, Panzer, and Meuselei.
