Description This is the record of book auctions in America from 1713 to 1934. In that period 10,126 auctions are identified and another 52 later added. A nation's interests and tastes are reflected in the materials it disgorges and America's auction history provides an illuminating picture. Auctions have always been a barometer of what is perceived interesting, if not always valuable.

As a collectible category some of the more voracious collectors of the printed word have pursed, if not achieved, completeness.
Scope of Text This text records the names, dates, places and brief particulars of sales posted in newspapers [and not always otherwise known] and more often detailed in printed catalogues which have been the norm in documented sales for the past two hundred years.
