Source Title Selected Catalogues
Description Kenneth Nebenzahl was a fixture in the American rare book trade for three decades before closing his shop at 333 N. Michigan, in Chicago, in 1989. From 1958 to 1988 he issued 35 catalogues, 20 bulletins and 51 separate map catalogues under the title: The Compass. He then relocated to Glencoe, Illinois.

He remains active in the trade, is an emeritus former Board member and vice president of the ABAA, the author of five books, many articles, essays and reviews and continues to be a frequent presence in the rooms at important auctions.

He is a long-time trustee and former vice chairman of Newberry Library, University of Chicago; Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum, a consultant to the Library of Congress and Rand McNally. Since 1963 he has sponsored the Kenneth Nebenzahl Jr. "Lectures in History of Cartography" at the Newberry Library. In 2007 he and Jonathan A. Hill, representing Nancy Streeter, negotiated the immensely successful placement of Mr. Frank Streeter's library at auction with Christies. With the benefit of hindsight that sale now appears to be the Jerome Kern sale of the modern era. Mr. Kern's library was famously auctioned in March, 1929.
