| Description | National Book Auctions traces its history back to the 1990s when it began online bookselling during the early years of the internet. In 2005, the firm opened an auction gallery in Ithaca, in central New York, under the name CNY Auctions. Pre-2007 results from this house are found in the AE Database under the name CNY Auctions. As the auction house had begun to operate on a national basis, it changed its name to National Book Auctions in 2007. While the firm auctions other items such as currency, stamps, and art, its major focus is on books and ephemera. Most auctions have been conducted from their Ithaca gallery, but they also travel to off site locations to conduct auctions. Among those conducted off site was the massive sale of the contents of the Worldwide Church of God's Ambassador College Library in Big Sandy, Texas. Ambassador College had been set up by Herbert W. Armstrong and his son Garner Ted Armstrong, at one time the most listened to radio evangelists in America. The auction took place over numerous dates in 2006 and 2007 selling over 100,000 books, mostly in multiple lots. |
