Source Title
Description The Julia auction was opened in the 1960s by Arthur Julia. James Julia purchased the firm from his father in 1974.

As a result of substantial growth during the 1980s, the house was divided into specialties, including advertising, toys and dolls; antiques and fine art; lamps and glass; and firearms.

James D. Julia Auctioneers is located in the central Maine town of Fairfield. Despite its seemingly out of the way location, it attracts an international clientele. Most of its sales are now made to absentee bidders, by telephone or the internet. While books and works on paper are not a major portion of their business, they may show up in an estate with other antiquarian material. One such case occurred in 2010 when they auctioned the Decatur-Armsden Collection. This family included Tobias Lear, an Aide-de-Camp of George Washington, among its ancestors, and their collection included signed material from Washington and Yorktown map which sold for $1.15 million.
