Source Title The George Brinley Auction Catalogues
Description The George Brinley Collection, sold at auction in 5 parts between 1879 and 1893. In the later 19th century, when many of the early and important books in the Americana field could still be obtained George Brinley assembled a collection of both extraordinary quality and depth. In the later part of the 20th century when the Thomas Streeter collection came under the hammer, the standard of comparison for the extraordinary Streeter collection was still the Brinley collection. If selling today, it would be sold in 19 parts and even in its day, it sold in five. Today 500 or so lots is the norm and the Brinley collection comprised 9,500 lots.
