Description Hauswedell & Nolte was formed in 1927 in Hamburg, in the northern part of Germany. Since its founding, the firm has conducted over 400 auctions. In 1983, it opened an office in New York to serve American consignors and bidders, and another in Los Angeles in the late 1990s.

Hauswedell & Nolte specializes in three areas, modern & contemporary art, old masters, and rare books, manuscripts, and autograph letters. It maintains experts on staff in the book field, and holds major auctions in the spring and fall.
