Description Lyon and Turnbull is Scotland's oldest auction house and one of the largest in the U.K. Founded in 1826 and formerly operated under the name Dowell and Lyon, they have been known by their current name since 1864. The firm has been located throughout its existence in Edinburgh.

Along with books, Lyon and Turnbull sells such items as paintings, jewelry, and furniture. In 2000 the firm formed an alliance with Freeman's of Philadelphia to extend its reach to customers on both sides of the Atlantic.
