Reiss and Sohn describes its specialty as being rare and valuable books, whole libraries and collections, illustrated books, atlases, manuscripts, incunabula, early printing, science, medicine, mathematics, botanical and zoological works, travel and geography, topography, literature, law and statesmanship, press books, rare maps and views of all parts of the world, and decorative prints.

The firm holds two book auctions per year, in the spring and fall. These tend to be enormous auctions, particularly by American standards, with many thousands of items being offered.
